
How to actually keep a wet changing room warm
Nobody likes stepping out of a shower into a freezing cold changing room. It’s a miserable experience. To fix that, we use shortwave infrared (SWIR) technology. Here’s the thing: most heaters just try to warm up the air. But in a drafty, damp room, that air just disappears. SWIR is different. It sends heat directly to your skin. You feel it the second you step under the lamp. It’s that instant, cozy warmth you usually only find in high-end hotels. Since these go in “wet zones,” we build them with an IP65 rating. That’s just a fancy way of saying they won’t short out if they get splashed or if the room feels like a sauna. The nitty-gritty on the heat We chose shortwave emitters because they don’t waste energy trying to heat the air in between the lamp and the person. They just hit the target. When you’re shivering in a towel, you don’t want to wait ten minutes for a room to “warm up.” You need heat now. That’s why we push for high power density—so the warmth is immediate and intense. Keeping things safe (and dry) Water and electricity are a terrible mix. To keep things safe, we seal the housing and the cable entries tight so dust and water jets can’t get inside. We also use tempered glass and quartz tubes. They can handle those wild swings from freezing cold to scorching hot without cracking. One quick warning on the install: these lamps getreallyhot at the focal point. If you mount them too close to plastic panels or anything that can melt, you’re going to have a bad time. Give the units some breathing room so the housing doesn’t overheat. Getting them up and running We designed these to be simple drop-in replacements for standard outdoor heaters. The connectors are standardized, so you aren’t spending all day messing with the wiring. Just a heads-up on the power side of things. These draw a lot of current. Do yourself a favor and check your circuit breaker before you start. Also, if you’re stringing a bunch of these together, make sure your cabling is thick enough. If the voltage drops, the heat drops, and you’re right back to having cold guests.
