Getting Your Sidel Heating Lamps Right (SBO and Matrix)
If you’re running PET blowing machines, you know the drill. If your infrared energy isn’t hitting just right, your preforms won’t heat evenly, and that’s where the headaches start. We’ve spent a lot of time making sure our replacement lamps fit everything Sidel throws at you—from the old-school SBO units to the newer Matrix series. The goal was simple: make them fit. No messing with the wiring, no hacking away at mounting brackets. Just a clean fit.
The Nitty-Gritty on Power
We don’t guess on voltage or wattage. If you’re using an SBO, we match the original thermal profile exactly. Why? Because those high-wattage shortwave lamps need to punch heat into the PET wall fast. Here’s the thing: if your voltage is off by even a tiny bit, you’re looking at uneven heating or, worse, lamps that burn out way too soon. To stop that from happening, we use a specific thickness of quartz glass. It’s built to handle the stress of heating up and cooling down over and over again without cracking.
No Drilling, No Drama
When we say “drop-in replacement,” we actually mean it. You won’t need any adapters or a drill. Depending on which SBO model you’ve got, we use standard R7s or Sk15 connectors. This means the lamp seats firmly in the socket—no gaps, no arcing, no sparks. We also added some specialized coatings to the quartz. It’s a small detail, but it helps the heat penetrate the plastic much more effectively.
Making Life Easier in the Shop
If you’ve got a mixed fleet of SBOs and Matrix machines, this is where it gets nice. You don’t have to juggle five different part numbers for five different generations of machines. It just cleans up your spare parts shelf. But a quick heads-up: if you push these lamps to their max wattage, your oven’s cooling fans are going to work harder. If your vents are clogged with dust, that extra heat can kill your lamps faster. Do yourself a favor—check your airflow before you crank up the power.
