
Getting Your Husky HyPET Lamps to Actually Work
If you’re running a high-speed PET line, you know the struggle. You’ve got the heat cranked up, but the plastic just isn’t cooperating. The problem is that standard lamps often just “tan” the surface of the preform. The inside stays cold. That’s where you get those annoying cold spots or walls that are way too thin in some places and thick in others. It’s frustrating.
Getting the heat where it belongs
We decided to stop fighting the surface and start hitting the core. By messing with the halogen gas pressure and the filament mix, we shifted the light to wavelengths that PET actually likes to soak up. Instead of the energy bouncing off the outside, it drives deep into the plastic. The result? The whole preform heats up evenly. You don’t have to worry about that cloudy, pearlescent look in your bottles, and you can finally push your machine speed without praying that the quality holds up.
The nuts and bolts
These aren’t some complicated new system you have to relearn. They’re simple drop-in replacements for your Husky setup. We use high-purity quartz glass because, let’s be honest, these things take a beating. The constant heating and cooling usually kills cheap lamps, but these are built to last. We also spent a lot of time on the connectors—whether you’re using R7s or Sk15. They’re machined tight. No arcing, no sparks, and no fighting with the lamp just to get it to sit flush in the holder. It just clicks in.
One quick heads-up
Here’s the catch. These lamps put out a massive amount of energy. While that’s great for your cycle times, it makes your oven run hot. If your cooling blowers are old or your vents are choked with dust, the ambient temperature in the oven will climb. If it gets too hot, your preforms might start to deform before they even hit the mold. Do yourself a favor: check your airflow before you swap these in. Once the air is moving, you’re good to go.
