Picking the right wattage for a bathroom heater isn’t exactly rocket science, but if you get it wrong, you’re either shivering in the shower or feeling like you’re standing inside a toaster. First, let’s talk about that “IP65” label. All that really means is that the heater is sealed tight. It keeps the steam and splashes out of the guts of the machine so you don’t blow a fuse the second you turn on the hot water. One thing to keep in mind: these quartz lamps don’t really “warm up the room” like a space heater does. They send heat directly to your skin. It’s that instant, cozy feeling you get from the sun on a winter day. Getting the wattage right You can’t just grab the biggest heater on the shelf and call it a day. If you’ve got a tiny powder room, a 250W to 400W lamp is plenty. If you go overkill in a small space, the unit will get too hot and just shut itself off to keep from melting. Not exactly the “spa vibe” you’re going for. For those big master baths, you’ll probably want a few 600W or 800W units. Here’s the trick: distance matters. The further you are from the lamp, the less heat you feel. If you’ve got high ceilings, you’re going to need more power just to make sure the warmth actually reaches you. The trade-off with waterproof seals Here is the catch with those IP65 seals. While they’re great for keeping water out, they also trap heat inside the fixture. If you shove a high-power lamp into a cheap housing that wasn’t built for it, you’re asking for trouble. You could fry the wiring or warp the seals.
