
The Trick to Heating a Bathroom Without Blinding Everyone
When we design infrared heaters for bathrooms, the biggest headache isn’t actually the heat. It’s the light. Think about it. You’re putting a high-powered lamp in a small, tiled room. If you aren’t careful, you end up with a glare that hurts your eyes. It’s even worse for babies, whose eyes are way more sensitive to certain light waves than ours are. Nobody wants a heater that feels like a spotlight in an interrogation room. Dealing with the glare Most standard infrared lamps just blast everything—heat and light—all at once. To fix that, we tweak the spectral output. We use specific quartz coatings and gas fills to basically “mute” the visible light. The goal is to keep all that cozy, long-wave infrared energy while cutting out the blinding white light. It’s all about filtering out those harsh peaks so you get the warmth on your skin without the eye strain. Keeping it safe Then there’s the heat itself. We don’t want a lamp that burns you the second you get too close. We keep these units on low voltage or optimized wattage to keep the surface temperature under control. We also spent a lot of time on the reflectors. Instead of a sharp, concentrated beam, we designed them to diffuse the light. You get a soft, gentle glow instead of a laser beam hitting your eyes. The tradeoff Here’s the catch: filtering the light isn’t free. When you block those visible wavelengths to protect your eyes, you lose a tiny bit of efficiency. You might notice the lamp needs to run a few minutes longer to warm up the room compared to those massive, unfiltered tubes you see in industrial warehouses. But you can’t just crank up the wattage to make up for it. If you overdo it, you risk melting or overheating the fixture housing. The secret is pairing these lamps with a solid thermostat. It keeps the cycle steady, the room warm, and the light levels exactly where they should be.
